According to foreign media reports, one of the busiest intersections in Toronto, Canada ’s most populous city, may be home to a new Apple flagship store. Foreign media MacRumors understands that related documents show that this new flagship store may be located in The One, an 85-story commercial residence under construction in Toronto. This high-rise building is located at the intersection of Yonge Street and Bloor Street in Toronto. The construction company Foster + Partners behind the project has already worked with Apple several times.
These plans outline a three-storey, approximately 9,000+ square foot retail store that may have an overhanging balcony like Apple ’s flagship store in Union Square, San Francisco. The store's large glass doors will lead to the sidewalk facing Bloor Street.
Although the documents were submitted to the City of Toronto in March 2016, MacRumors readers and Toronto resident Pedro Marques noticed that the documents had been updated and Apple's name appeared in them. Apple has not announced plans to open a flagship store in Toronto, but rumors about the company's opening can be traced back to at least 2012. The planning document was the first concrete evidence that foreign media saw outside the subtle hints of builder Mizrahi Developments.
Although mentioned in the planning documents, there is no guarantee that Apple has finalized the lease contract. A few years ago, anonymity source told MacRumors that Apple was considering exiting the project due to other issues such as project delays. Apple currently has retail locations in Toronto's Eaton Centre, Fairview Mall, Sherway Gardens and Yorkdale but all are in the mall.
The One is expected to be completed in early 2020, although Foster + Partners still lists completion dates for 2022.
